A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 1, 2025 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West. Burial will follow at Gerald Cemetery in Gerald. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
She was born on December 26, 1929, to the late Rudolph and Christine (Petter) Altus. Wilma, a proud resident of Leroy, Texas, lived a life dedicated to her family, community, and faith. Wilma graduated from West High School in 1948 and furthered her education by attending 4C Business College in Waco. On June 10, 1951, she married Donald Richter in Gerald, and together they shared a loving partnership until Donald's passing on March 10, 2017. Wilma was an active member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Gerald, where she touched many lives as a Sunday School teacher and a member of the church choir. Her commitment to nurturing the next generation was evident as she also served as a Girl Scout leader. Later in life, she, her husband, and sister volunteered for many years at the Gospel Cafe. Wilma worked at the Rohan Company in Waco, where she courageously weathered the infamous Waco tornado. Her final career chapter was devoted to the Leroy Post Office, where she served as Postmaster until her well-earned retirement. Beyond her professional endeavors, she found joy in her garden, often tending to her flowers and appreciating the beauty of nature. Cooking, sewing, and crafting brought her happiness, and she delighted in hosting gatherings for family and friends. A lover of cats, she found companionship in her furry friends, who brought warmth and joy to her life.
Survivors include her children, Donna Richter of Saint Petersburg, FL, William Richter and wife Dalila of Waco, and Julianne Smith and husband Gerald of Austin; granddaughter, April Segovia; sister, Esther Hailey; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Talitha Koum Institute or the Gospel Cafe.
