Wilford Schuetz

Wilford Claude Schuetz, age 87, of Robinson, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, September 23, 2026 at St. Anthony's Care Center in Waco. He had battled Parkinson's Dementia for several years.Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday September 28, 2026 at Gerald Cemetery near Leroy, with Rev. Jacob Brenton officiating.

Wilford was born July 2, 1939 in Leroy, the son of Adolph and Meta (Lander) Schuetz. He attended schools in Gerald and Leroy and was a 1958 graduate of West High School. Working hard every day was his joy. When the day came that he realized he could no longer crawl up a ladder, lift a hammer or get on a roof he made the decision to retire. He worked for himself for over 60 years. He never advertised his business. He stayed busy by word of mouth which speaks volumes for the type of man he was.

He loved his sweet Shitzu dogs Muffin and Holly. He loved to throw a pole in the water sometimes just to see what he could catch. During his working years he enjoyed getting his morning breakfast every morning at Harold Waite's Café. After he built his new home in Robinson he became an avid fan of The Robinson Café. He grew up in the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Gerald, Texas. Later in life he became a devote member of the St. John Church of Christ in Robinson where he spent time using his carpentry skills at the church and The Master's Workshop Camp.

He was always there if a friend or family member needed him to hurry and build them something. Carpenter work was his one true "hobby". He never said no when his good friend Gene Kamas came by to chat over one or two beers. Later in life he became a regular for checking out books at the Waco Library.

He was a wonderful dad who could always be counted on. He rarely missed his son Kevin's baseball games and became known as "the water dad" because he always had plenty of cold water ready for the team. In later years, he loved watching his grandson Zac play baseball and was especially proud when Zac pitched and helped Midway win the state championship. Though he was not a big man, he had a big appetite, always cleaning his plate and asking for seconds-a favorite family joke.

He was so happy when he became a grandfather and then a great grandfather and loved seeing the kids growing up.

Wilford is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Kevin Schuetz; his step-daughter, Shannon Sumpter; two sisters, Dolores Symank and Gloria Schuetz; his twin brother, Dick Schuetz; and his nephews, Ronnie Symank and Larry Dean Schuetz.

Wilford is survived by his wife, Barbara; his daughter, Karen Oliver and her husband Gary, their children, Zac Oliver and his wife Abby, and their daughter, Ryan, Ashley Granger and her husband Kinney and their children, Cason and Hudson. His step-daughters Staci Dalton and husband Steve, Shelley Saufnauer and her husband Dan and their children Jordan and Emily. A brother, Clarence Schuetz and his companion Helen, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Honorary Pallbearers are Zac Oliver, Gary Oliver, Kinney Granger, Cason Granger, Keith Louis, Paul Schuetz, Bryant Schuetz, and Dennis Symank.
