June 15, 1945 — June 11, 2026

Virgil Lee Kubacak, age 80, of Round Rock, formerly of West, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, departed this life on June 11, 2026, just a few days shy of his 81st birthday.

A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2026 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Timothy Vaverek as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, conducted by West Veterans Honor Guard.

Virgil was born on June 15, 1945, in Waco, the son of George and Mary Ann (Straten) Kubacak. A proud graduate of West High School in 1963, Virgil pursued his education with tenacity and purpose. During his high school years, he was a member of The Torquers, a classic car club which sparked his lifelong love of cars and craftsmanship. He earned an associate degree in Applied Sciences from Texas State Technical Institute in Waco in 1973, followed by a Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing Technology from the American Technological University in Killeen in 1977. On October 12, 1968, Virgil married the love of his life, Mary Ann Fridel. Their marriage became a true partnership-rooted in humor, tenderness, and a quiet, enduring strength. From 1963 to 1967, Virgil served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, working as a flight crew chief while stationed in Thailand. His military service left a lasting imprint on him, instilling a deep sense of purpose, pride and commitment that he carried throughout his life. Virgil was a devoted member of St. William Catholic Church in Round Rock and took great pride in his participation with several organizations, including the Veterans Of Foreign Wars at Large in Texas, the Academy of Model Aeronautics, the International Plastic Modelers Society, and the KJT St. Aloisius Society #86 in West. He was particularly passionate about his involvement with the Commemorative Air Force, where his love for aviation flourished. With more than three decades dedicated to his career, Virgil worked for General Dynamics in Waco as a flight line mechanic before transitioning to Westinghouse Motor Company Heavy Industry Motor Division in Round Rock, where he excelled as a field service engineer and quality engineer until his retirement in 2007. Virgil was never happier than when he was helping kids learn and grow. As a den leader for his son's Cub Scout and Webelos group, he created a space where curiosity, kindness, and adventure thrived. He taught by example-showing his scouts how to work hard, look out for one another, and take pride in every small accomplishment. In his leisure, Virgil found joy in working on cars, nurturing his garden, and creating intricate model cars, airplanes, and ships from plastic and wood, transforming them into stunning display pieces. His creativity and craftsmanship were a source of pride and fulfillment throughout his life.

Virgil is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Allan Kubacak.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 57 years, Mary Ann Kubacak of Round Rock; a son, Aaron Kubacak and his partner Daryn Eslinger of Austin; siblings, Beth Sulak and husband John, Anthony Kubacak and wife Carolyn, James Kubacak and wife Sarah, and Cindy Smith and husband Dickie; a sister-in-law, Denice Kubacak; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
