Sybil Diane "Ann" (Jones) McCartney, age 81, of Gholson, passed away early Tuesday morning, July 1, 2025 at Lakeshore Village Healthcare Center in Waco.
A Graveside Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at Gholson Cemetery, with Rev. James Stevens officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West.
Ann was born November 16, 1943 in Waco, the Daughter of Herbert and Loma (Martin) Jones. She married George "Curtie" McCartney on December 2, 1961 in Riesel. Curtie and Ann were united for 44 years filled with love and companionship until he preceded her in death on March 18, 2005. They shared countless memories traveling and camping together with their family. After his passing, Ann met Bill Melton at Linden Hall in Elm Mott and they danced their lives away at every senior citizens dance around. They were united in marriage on January 30, 2010 in Waco. She was a member of Wesley Chapel Methodist Church in Gholson. As a devoted childcare provider for many years at West Parkway Daycare, Sybil's warm spirit and loving nature touched the lives of many children and families in the community. A woman of many passions, Sybil found joy in dancing, camping, bowling, shopping, and cooking. Above all, she treasured spending time with her family, especially her grandkids, whose laughter and joy filled her heart with light.
Sybil is preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Liz Rich; brothers, Bill Jones and Clifford Jones; and a grandson, David McCartney.
Survivors include her husband Bill Melton; son, Allen McCartney and wife Stacy, of Gholson; grandchildren, Alysha McCartney, Holli McDow and husband Tim, Jason Rich and wife Clare, Amanda Straten and husband Nick, and Michael Trammell and wife D'Lynn; great- grandchildren, Alex McDow and wife Jaelyn, Adam McDow, Jamey McDow, Emily Rich, Hannah Rich, Mallory Trammell, Levi Straten and Rylee Straten; great-great grandchildren Presley and James McDow; sisters, Fay Sanders, Helen Wilde, and Jenny Woodall; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Honorary pallbearers are Jason Rich, Tim McDow, Alex McDow, Adam McDow, Michael Trammell and Nick Straten.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Volunteer Ambulance and Gholson Volunteer Fire Department.
