Sheryl Porter

Sheryl Layne Porter, age 76, of West, passed away early Wednesday morning, January 21, 2026 at Lynridge Assisted Living in Waco.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Minister Ernie Albrecht officiating. Burial will follow at White Rock Cemetery near Ross. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Sheryl was born on October 2, 1949, in Hillsboro the daughter of Cora Lee "Huffy" (Huffstutler) and Robert Busby Sr. She was a proud member of the West community, where she attended school. On October 1, 1968, Sheryl was united in marriage to Dennis Porter, with whom she shared a life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Together, they nurtured a family who affectionately knew her as "Granny." A devoted member of the West Church of Christ, Sheryl lived her life with faith. She dedicated many years of her career as a custodian at Texas State Technical College, where her commitment to service was felt by students and staff alike. Her earlier years included working at Kirsch Manufacturing, where she crafted mini blinds, and contributing to the family grocery store, Busby Grocery, in West. Sheryl's passions manifested through her love for reading, gardening, and solving puzzles. She found joy in cooking, baking, and canning, often filling the family home with the sweet aromas of homemade jellies and preserved fruits. Sheryl had a particular fondness for picking peaches and plums, turning each harvest into delightful treats for her family. She thrived on hosting gatherings and celebrating life's milestones, especially during birthdays and holidays, where her warm spirit and vibrant personality shone brightest.

Sheryl is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert "Bobby" Busby; and a sister, Denise Busby.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 57 years, Dennis Porter of West; her children, Keith Porter, Troy Porter, DeLayne Chudej and husband David, and Darla Gerik and husband Troy; her grandchildren, Cameron Porter and wife Tara, Dylan Porter, Chelsea Porter, Matt Gerik and wife Baylie, and Nathan Gerik and wife Hope; her great grandchildren, Aydon, Paislee, Addy, Kai, and Prescott; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Pallbearers are Cameron Porter, Dylan Porter, Matt Gerik, Nathan Gerik, Troy Gerik, and David Chudej.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to White Rock Cemetery Association.
