It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Petronila "Prieta" Barrios, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Petronila was born on May 31, 1965, in Chalchihuites, Mexico, to Marcos Acevedo and the late Francisca (Mendez) Acevedo. She departed this life peacefully on October 12, 2025, at her home in West.
A rosary will be recited 5:00 p.m. Thursday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, followed by visitation until 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2025 at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours, with Rev. Timothy Vaverek as celebrant.
A devoted member of St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours, Prieta cherished her faith and the community that surrounded her. She graduated from Crawford High School in 1984 and later married the love of her life, Ramon Barrios, on August 20, 1988, in Mexico. Together, they built a warm and loving home filled with laughter and shared memories. For 25 years, Prieta made a profound impact as a Teacher's Aide at Lake Air Montessori School in Waco, where her nurturing spirit and dedication to education touched the lives of countless children. She found joy in gardening and was an enthusiastic supporter of the Dallas Cowboys. Prieta particularly loved spending quality time with her family, attending their sporting events, and celebrating every joyous occasion together.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness as she is survived by her devoted husband of 37 years, Ramon Barrios; her cherished daughters, Francisca Barrios and Dolores Barrios; her son, Nicholas Barrios; her granddaughter, Skyler Barrios-Willenborg; her father, Marcos Acevedo Sr; her parents in law, Santiago and Dolores Barrios; her sisters, Irma Dunnam and husband Vance, Hilda Acevedo, Carolina Rodarte and husband Juan, Olga Davilla, and Marylou Palacios Perez and husband Juan; her brother, Marcos Asevedo Jr and wife Irma; nieces, Connie Alaniz, Marissa Murguia, Margarita Rodarte, Olivia Murguia, Stephanie Rueda, Francis Perez, Melissa Rodarte, Erica Murguia, Giselle Rodriguez, Destiny Torres, and Angelica Ramires; nephews, Marcos Asevedo III, Brandon Asevedo, and Juanito Rodarte Jr; and many other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers are Nicholas Barrios, Marcos Asevedo III, Brandon Asevedo, Juanito Rodarte Jr, Victor Toca, and Enrique Cabral.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Martin's Cemetery Association.
At Prieta's request, Please wear Dallas Cowboys colors to the visitiation and Mass.
