Richard Kusler, age 89, of Leroy, passed away Tuesday evening, July 14, 2026 at his residence.
Funeral Service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Pastor Cyndi Abbe officiating. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Private burial at Gerald Cemetery will be held at a later date.
Richard was born on September 26, 1936, in Atlanta, the son of the late Otto and Genevieve (Page) Kusler. He was a 1955 graduate of University High School in Waco and later attended both Baylor University and Texas A&M University, where he developed a lifelong love for the Aggies. He was a devoted Texas A&M fan and proudly followed the university's sports teams throughout the years. On November 13, 1982, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Barbara Silaff, in Gerald. Their marriage was one of deep love, devotion, and companionship, and they shared more than four decades together, creating countless cherished memories. Barbara preceded him in death on July 3, 2023, a loss Richard carried deeply. Richard was a member of The Leroy Church. He previously worked for the Texas Department of Transportation before serving as a property manager for the Brazos River Authority at Lake Limestone and Lake Granbury for 27 years. Through hard work and dedication, he earned the respect of those who knew and worked alongside him before retiring in 2002. Richard found joy in attending rodeos, playing dominoes with family and friends, traveling, and settling down with a good Western novel. Above all, he treasured time spent with Barbara and those he loved. He will be remembered for his unwavering love for his wife, family, his loyal friendships, his strong work ethic, and his quiet, steady presence. His memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
