Mary A. Kocian, age 90, of Penelope, passed away late Sunday afternoon, June 26, 2011 at Lakeshore Village in Waco. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Kocian was born August 21, 1920 in Mosheim, the daughter of Hermann and Albertine (Buth) Hennig. She was the last remaining child of 14 children. On April 12, 1946, she was united in marriage to Wesley J. Kocian in Penelope. He preceded her in death on May 30, 1999. Mary worked at the Providence Hospital cafeteria and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Catholic Church of the Nativity B.V.M. in Penelope prior to becoming a member of St. Mary's when she moved to West. She was also a member of K.J.Z.T. Society #35 in Penelope. Mary enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, doing yard work, and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Karlik and husband Jerry of West and Cheryl Janek and husband Benny of Penelope; four grandchildren, Melissa Washington and husband Jim, Karen Ann Blanco and husband Samuel, Billy Karlik, and Lance Ondrej and wife Caroline; four great grandchildren, Nathan Fleming, Baisley Blanco, Holden Ondrej, and Evan Ondrej; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Billy Karlik, Benny Janek, Samuel Blanco, Holden Ondrej, Larry Chapman and Jim Washington. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Bluebonnet Hospice, or West Rest Haven Memorial Fund.
