Martin Alfred Sulak, age 94, of Waco, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2026 at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple.
A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m.Thursday, July 9, 2026 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Timothy Vaverek as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
Martin was born on March 24, 1932, in Rogers Hill near West, the son of Phillip and Barbara (Futch) Sulak. He attended Sulak School through the 8th grade and spent his life rooted in the community he called home. On August 16, 1958, Martin married Evelyn Domesle in Penelope. The two shared 60 years of marriage, creating a lifetime of memories together before Evelyn's passing on October 4, 2018. Martin proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War where he earned the Purple Heart Award. He was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bellmead and was also a proud member of SPJST Lodge #66, American Legion Post #478, Knights of Columbus Council #7202, and United Rubber Workers Local #312. Martin was a hardworking man who dedicated many years to General Tire and Rubber Company and later La Vega Independent School District. Outside of work, Martin enjoyed the things that brought him happiness, like hunting coyotes with his dogs, gathering with others for a game of Wahoo or 42, and listening and dancing to Czech music. He appreciated tradition, good company, and the moments spent sharing laughter and stories with those around him.
Martin is also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Phillip Sulak, Paul Sulak, and Walter Sulak; and sisters, Theresa Svehlak and Barbara LaJesse.
Survivors include his children, Martin "JR" Sulak and wife Brenda of Lacy Lakeview, Michael Sulak and wife Melissa of Milford, and Maureen Willingham and husband Darrell of League City; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; brother, Alois Sulak and wife Betty; sisters, Veronica Craven and husband Pat, Rose Marie Jezek, and Beatrice Yale; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Pallbearers are Josh Coy, Cobly Summers, Jordan Willingham, Cydnee Willingham, Trey Sulak, Richard Jezek, and Brian Sulak.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Cemetery Association.
