Marlene Barton Steinocher, age 93, a beloved community member of the town of West, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2025 at Providence Park Village in Waco.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 3:00 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2025 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Aderhold Funeral Home.
Marlene was born September 6, 1931 in Dallas, the daughter of George and Lucille (Dove) Wynne. She graduated from Paschal High School in Fort Worth in 1949 and furthered her education at 4-C Business College in Waco. Marlene's remarkable journey in life included her steadfast devotion to family and community. On February 15, 1980, she was united in marriage to Joe Steinocher, who predeceased her in death on September 26, 2000. Marlene's faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was a devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, where she shared her love for music as an organist with St. Cecelia's Choir and was a member of Catholic Daughters of America Court #829. Additionally, her 30 years of service playing the organ at the First United Methodist Church in West spoke volumes of her unwavering commitment to her faith. Professionally, Marlene's career spanned various roles, as she worked as a bookkeeper and administrative assistant for Lipsitz and Spenco. She was an office clerk for West Community Hospital from 1980 to 1982, a bookkeeper for Park Exxon from 1982 to 1986, a bookkeeper for H&D Oil Company in West and Waco from 1986 to 1995, and was a bookkeeper for Flowers & Things until retiring in 1998. Her leisure time was spent cooking, listening to all styles of music, reading, and hosting family gatherings, especially holidays.
Marlene is also preceded in death by her parents; the father of her children, Lambert Barton; a son, David Barton; and a grandson, Joshua Barton.
Survivors include her children, Mark Barton and wife Mary of Spring, Paul Barton and partner Kathy Ballesteros of West, Paula Simpson and husband Casey of Belton, Stephen Barton and partner Amy Parrish of West; grandchildren, Rachel Conch and husband Marcus, Devin Barton and partner Shannon Herod, Lauren Simpson, Breanna Simpson, Jessica Barton, Mason Barton, and Jacob Barton; great grandchildren, Braden Jewell, Kirsten Jewell, Avery Conch, Mitchell Conch, Reid Barton, and Beau Barton; a sister-in-law, Celesta Dulock; brother-in-law, Emmett Barton Jr.; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Pallbearers are Mark Barton, Paul Barton, Stephen Barton, Casey Simpson, Jacob Barton, Devin Barton, Marcus Conch, and Kip Barton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's School Endowment Fund or St. Mary's Cemetery Association.
