Ruth Marcheta Langford, age 94, of West, passed away Tuesday morning, October 13, 2026 at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro.
A Graveside Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2026 at Brandon-Bynum Cemetery near Bynum, with Dr. John Crowder officiating.
Marcheta, affectionately known as "Bragaw" and "Auntie," was born on November 24, 1931, in Ralls, Texas, the daughter of Carl Lavender and Dora (Wallace) Lavender White. She attended Brandon Elementary School and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1949. She continued her education at Baylor University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music in 1953. On August 9, 1975, she was united in marriage to Grady Langford in Brandon. Together, they shared a life filled with love and cherished memories until his passing on December 20, 2006. Marcheta had a lifelong love of teaching and devoted over 40 years to that career, most of which were spent at Alta Vista Elementary School where she shared her love of education with generations of young students. She was a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association and Delta Kappa Gamma. A faithful member of Brandon Methodist Church, Marcheta shared her musical talents by playing the piano for church services. Marcheta found happiness in the simple pleasures of life, including gardening, canning, and feeding the birds and squirrels, as well as volunteering at the West Public Library. She treasured visiting with dear friends, especially those from West and her Baylor days. She always enjoyed cheering on the Baylor Lady Bears basketball team. Marcheta also loved cooking and the warmth of a home filled with family and friends. Above all, she cherished time spent with those she loved, whether sharing stories, gathering around the table, or simply enjoying one another's company. Marcheta will be lovingly remembered for her lively spirit and the thoughtful ways she touched the lives of those around her.
Marcheta is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Grady Langford Jr.; a son, Paul Langford; and a brother, Clint Lavendar.
Survivors include her children, Laura Lankford and husband Jay, of West; grandchildren, Brad Lankford and wife Toni, and Grant Lankford and fiance Miranda Rhodes; great-grandson, Jacob Ables; sister-in-law, Liv Lavendar; nieces, Jan Tucker and husband Bob, and Linda Scoggins and husband Doug; and many great nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
