Luddie W. Zapalac, age 84, of Garland, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2019 at his residence. Memorial Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at St. Mary's Cemetery near West, with Deacon Ronnie Sykora officiating. Luddie was born February 4, 1935 in West the son of Ludvik and Albina (Vanek) Zapalac. While attending West High School, he took a correspondence course in electronics and upon his graduation enlisted in the United States Army. After basic training he was assigned to Redstone Arsenal in Alabama where he delighted in working with radar equipment. After being honorably discharged, Luddie went to work for Texas Instruments in Richardson as a mechanical technician and received many awards for his problem solving talent. Luddie is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jerry Zapalac and Raymond Zapalac; a sister, Martha (Zapalac) Dowdy; a niece, Kathy (Zapalac) Wallace; and a nephew, Van Dowdy. Survivors include a sister, Mary Ann (Zapalac) Adams and her husband Jack; a sister-in-law, Helen Zapalac; nephews, Wayne Zapalac and wife Melinda, Mark Zapalac and wife Cindy, all of West, Martin Dowdy of Ft. Worth, Jack Adams III and wife Mindy of Celina and Allen Adams and wife Rana of Wylie; and many other relatives and friends.
