Lucille Marie (Kubacak) Uptmore, age 98, of West, passed away early Saturday afternoon, June 27, 2026 at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth.
A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2026 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Timothy Vaverek as celebrant, assisted by Deacon Robin Waters. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
Lucille was born on September 7, 1927, to Frank and Mary (Smajstrla) Kubacak. She was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, and friend who touched the lives of many with her kindness and gentle spirit. On January 14, 1951, Lucille united in marriage to her beloved husband, Ernest "Big Ern" Uptmore, in Waco. Together, they crafted a life filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams until Ernest's passing on December 8, 2003. Lucille was a pillar of strength for her family, skillfully balancing her responsibilities as a homemaker and co-owner of Uptmore Motors, the family automobile business established in 1946. As a dedicated bookkeeper, she ensured the smooth operation of the business while nurturing her family's legacy. Lucille was a lifelong and faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, where she enriched her community as a member of several organizations, including the Catholic Daughters of America Court #829, the West VFW Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary, SPJST Lodge #54, KJZT St. Ludmila Society #11, and the McLennan/Hill Czech Heritage Society. Her deep faith and strong sense of community were integral parts of her life. She found joy in the simple pleasures, cooking for her loved ones, traveling to new places, and indulging in the excitement of casinos. Lucille treasured the moments spent at military reunions with Big Ern, sharing stories and laughter with family and friends alike. Her greatest joy came from being surrounded by those she loved.
Lucille is also preceded in death by her parents; his brothers, Raymond Sr., Alphonse, George, and Charlie Kubacak; and his sisters, Irene Devers and Barbara Recek.
Survivors include her children, Ernest "Inky" Uptmore and wife Debbie, of Ross, Debbie Henry and husband John, of Leander, and Gary Uptmore and wife Laura, of West; her grandchildren, Chance Vrba, Brad Uptmore and significant other Emera Schrantz, Kristin Jennings, Garrett Uptmore and significant other Katie Cox, and Hannah Uptmore and significant other Logan Carns; her great grandchildren, Marley, Dylan, Van "Shuggie", Landon, and Alexander Uptmore; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
