Sue Hughes

July 24, 1945 — January 13, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Letha Sue Hughes, who entered eternal rest on Tuesday, January 13, 2026. She was born on July 24, 1945, in Gorman, Texas, to James Dawson and Hazel Albertina McLaughlin Rodgers.

Raised in Blanket, Texas, Sue graduated in 1963 from Trimble Tech High School in Fort Worth, where she met Jerry Dale Hughes, her husband and partner for nearly 60 years. Sue lived a life of quiet strength and generous spirit, and in every role she held, she left an indelible mark-as a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a steadfast friend and confidant.

While raising her four daughters-Sherry, Lory, Emily, and Jennyfer-Sue returned to her education and discovered a new season of growth. She earned her Associate of Arts degree from Hill College, and her deep love for learning blossomed into a 29-year career as Administrative Assistant of Student Services at Hill College in Hillsboro. In this role, she became a trusted guide and source of encouragement to countless students, offering support, wisdom, and compassion as they pursued their goals.

Sue possessed a vibrant spirit and a deep connection to the land. She found joy in the great outdoors, expressing her creativity through artwork, custom leatherwork, and hands-on craftsmanship. She loved farming and gardening and held a special passion for tending her grape vineyard. With patience and joy, she shared these passions with her children and grandchildren, teaching them to value creativity, curiosity, and the beauty of working with one's hands.

She leaves behind her four daughters, eleven grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren, who were the greatest joy of her life. Sue's legacy of kindness, resilience, and unwavering love will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to a dear family friend whose compassion, care, and steadfast support during Sue's later years were a true blessing to her and to the family.
