Lester Charles Boortz, age 94, of West, passed away Sunday evening, August 24, 2025 at West Rest Haven in West.

A Memorial Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West.

Lester was born on August 18, 1931, in Thrall, Texas, to John and Dora (Stauffer) Boortz, and he lived a life rich in love, service, and connection to the land. A 1948 graduate of Thrall High School, Lester went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from Sam Houston State University. His 37 year career as a farm planner for the United States Department of Agriculture exemplified his passion for farming and his commitment to helping others succeed in agriculture. On August 2, 1958, he married the love of his life, Freddie Mitchell, in Pleasanton. Lester's love for his family was evident in all aspects of his life, from their cherished family vacations to everyday moments spent together. Lester was a former member of the First United Methodist Church of West. He enjoyed tending to his cattle, hunting, fishing at the coast, and many activities that connected him to nature and provided countless memories with loved ones.

Lester is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Blane Boortz; a brother, Neil Boortz; and a sister, Joyce McCowan.

Survivors include his beloved wife Freddie Boortz of West; his daughters, Carolyn Probst and husband Darrell of Brownwood, Jeralyn Luco of Andrews, and LeeAnn Morrisey and husband Steve of New Braunfels; daughter-in-law, Carmen Boortz; his grandchildren, Julyssa Rodriguez and husband Kevin, Adriana Corpus and husband Vincent, John Boortz, Macey Baumgartner and husband Justin, Braxton Luco and wife Erika, Kirsten Luco, Garrett Morrisey, and Reagan Morrisey; his great grandchildren, Tenlee Luco, Emree Luco, Grayson Luco, Cami Rodriguez, and Aubrie Baumgartner; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Volunteer Ambulance Association.
