Leonard David Slamcik, age 80, of West, passed away early Tuesday morning, January 6, 2026 at his residence.
Graveside Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 9, 2026 at West Brethren Cemetery near West, with Dr. Leslie King officiating. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the West Veterans Honor Guard. Leonard will lie in state from 12:00 noon until 6:00 p.m. Thursday at Aderhold Funeral Home.
Leonard was born December 21, 1945, in Lakewood, Ohio, the son of Joseph and Margaret (Reese) Slamcik. He attended school in Cleveland, Ohio where he grew up. Leonard enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 17, serving three tours during the Vietnam War. From 1963 until 1987, he proudly served his country at Army and Air Force Installations across the world including Japan and Germany. Upon his military retirement he moved to Texas and became a certified police officer, serving the cities of Schertz, Cibolo, Marion, and Hubbard, before retiring as Chief of Police for the City of Kerens. In 1991, he performed undercover investigations with the Alamo Area Narcotics Task Force. Leonard was initiated into the Aomori Masonic Lodge #10 in Japan in 1977, and since then he has been deeply involved in Masonic Lodges in Massachusetts, Germany, and throughout Central Texas. In 2023, Leonard served as District Deputy Grand Master for District #62. He was most recently active with the Blum Lodge #607. A devoted Christian, Leonard faithfully attended church and read his Bible every morning. Leonard enjoyed woodworking, home improvement projects, riding his tractor, collecting model trains, and tending to the farm and cows. Above all, he cherished time spent with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren and his beloved great-granddaughter, Kathryn. He will be most fondly remembered for his sense of humor, his love of people, and a good practical joke.
Leonard is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert Slamcik and Richard Slamcik; and sisters, Carol Smith, Janet Schwartz, Madeline Slamcik, and Margaret Michoci.
Survivors include his beloved partner, Ann Parey; daughter, Amanda Lassetter and husband Larry Jr. of Abbott; grandchildren, Damian Lassetter, and Derian Lassetter and wife Carolyn; a great-granddaughter, Kathryn Lassetter; brother, Eugene Slamcik; sister, Virginia Hinkle; a son, David Slamcik of Reno, NV; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
