Joan Kasik

Karen Joan (Bordovsky) Kasik, age 74, of Waco, passed away Friday evening, February 6, 2026 at Ascension Providence Hospital in Waco.

A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Friday, February 13, 2026 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2026 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bellmead, with Rev. Fernando Saenz as celebrant. Burial will follow at West Brethren Cemetery.

Joan was born on December 20, 1951, in Mart, the daughter of Billy and Rosalie (Pechacek) Bordovsky. She graduated from Mart High School in 1970 and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Baylor University in 1974. On December 30, 1972, Joan married John Kasik Jr. in Elk, sharing a life filled with love and partnership until his passing on September 7, 2022. Her deep faith was reflected in her active membership at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bellmead, where she nurtured her spiritual life and forged lasting friendships within the community. Joan dedicated her career to education as a librarian at the Moody Library on the Baylor University campus. She inspired countless students and colleagues through her passion for literature and learning. In her personal life, she found joy in gardening, canning vegetables, singing in the choir, reading, praying, and serving others. Most importantly, Joan treasured the time spent with her family and friends, creating memories that will forever be cherished.

Joan is also preceded in death by her parents; her son, Kevin Kasik; and a sister, Betty Swaner.

Survivors include her children, Brian Kasik of Rockport, Jason Kasik of Frisco, John Kasik III of Waco, Amanda Gilson and husband Sean of Edmond, OK, and Mona Kasik of Dallas; grandchildren, Hannah Leutwyler and husband C.J., Ashlyn Kasik, Bradley Gilson, and Bennett Gilson; a great-granddaughter, Evelyn Leutwyler; brothers, Charles Bordovsky and partner Christine, Jim Brodovsky and wife Dale, Harold Bordovsky, and Wendel Bordovsky and wife Khaki; a sister, Lisa McLeskey and husband Rusty; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Active pallbearers are Ryan Swaner, Zach McLeskey, Robert Bordovsky, Brandon Bordovsky, Jeremy Cockburn, Richard Coburn, Gary Niemeyer, Cody Ledbetter, and Justin Orr. Honorary pallbearers are Bradley Gilson, Bennett Gilson and C.J. Leutwyler.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bellmead, Tunnels to Towers or St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
