Josephine "Josie" (Bartosh) Grones, age 97, of West, passed away early Tuesday morning, June 9, 2026 at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital in Waco.
A rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Thursday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2026 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Walter Dhanwar as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
Josie was born May 17, 1929 in Penelope, the daughter of Joe and Mary (Knapek) Bartosh. She graduated from Penelope High School in 1947 and went on to lead a life full of love, dedication, and unwavering spirit in her 97 years of life. On January 17, 1953, Josie was united in marriage to her husband Jerome "Jerry" Grones, who preceded her in death on September 10, 2014. A long-time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, Josie also actively participated in the Mr. and Mrs. Bass Club and the Catholic Daughters of America Court #829, embodying a spirit of fellowship and service. Josie dedicated 32 years of her life as a seamstress at Lorch Manufacturing. She retired in 1990, leaving behind a legacy of diligence and creativity. Known for her love of the outdoors, Josie cherished fishing, deer hunting, camping, working in the yard, and nurturing her garden. Yet, above all, it was her family that brought her the greatest joy.
Josie is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and a sister, Leona McCullough.
Survivors include her son, Gary Grones and wife Debby of Robinson; granddaughter, Valerie Seidel and husband Shane; great-granddaughter, Quinn Seidel; brother, James Bartosh; sister, Irene Hynek; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Volunteer Ambulance Association.
