Jerry was born May 2, 1940, in Dallas, the son of John and Ruby (Honea) Turner. A proud graduate of Temple High School in 1958, Jerry continued his education at Abilene Christian University, where he earned a master's degree in education in 1965. His dedication to teaching began shortly thereafter, and he made history as the first male in Texas to obtain a license to teach kindergarten. Jerry's teaching career spanned many years, during which he mentored and inspired countless students at Mt. Calm School, Windham State School, and Navarro Junior College. He also shared his thoughts and insights as a column writer for the Mexia Newspaper, where his passion for education and community shone through. On September 23, 1982, Jerry was united in marriage to Regina Carter in Mexia, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, joy, and adventures. Jerry was a member of the Church of Christ. He loved going on cruises, delving into history, and had an extraordinary gift for connecting with people; indeed, he truly never met a stranger. Jerry took great pride in his Texan roots, embracing the spirit of the Lone Star State with open arms.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Judy Dalby and Wanda Bergdahl.
