It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jason Keith McCartney, age 54, of West, who departed this life on May 7, 2026, at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital in Waco, just days shy of his 55th birthday.
A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at First Baptist Church in West, with Rev. Chris Silva officiating. Private burial will follow at Gholson Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Born on May 10, 1971, in Waco, Jason was the beloved son of Larry McCartney and the late Janet (Terry) McCartney. Jason attended schools in Aquilla, Gholson, and West, where he made lifelong friends and shared fond memories. On July 17, 1993, Jason was united in marriage to Heather Hlavenka in a ceremony filled with love and joy. Together, they built a beautiful life and family in West. Jason was a dedicated salesman at Sykora Family Ford, where he worked for over two decades, establishing meaningful connections with colleagues and customers alike. He also gained valuable experiences working with Central Freight Lines and John McClaren Chevrolet. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. He had a zest for life, and he loved to spend time outdoors, whether fishing, camping, or playing poker with friends. Traveling brought him great joy, especially going on cruises, where he created cherished memories. Above all, Jason adored his family and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Heather McCartney, of West; sons, Tristan McCartney and wife Natalie, of Abbott, and Cameron McCartney and wife Stefanie Necak, of Kyle; grandchildren, Collins and Gus McCartney; his father, Larry Joe McCartney; brothers, Larry McCartney and wife Mary, and Gary McCartney and wife Missy; father-in-law, Tom Hlavenka and wife Connie; mother-in-law, Shirley Hill; brothers-in-law, Jon Hlavenka and wife Sharon, and Kevin Hlavenka and wife Laura; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Active pallbearers are Keith Beverly, Donny Cook, Cody Harris, Walter Holder, Bradley McCartney, and Brandon McCartney. Honorary pallbearers are Collins and Gus McCartney.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a scholarship fund for his grandchildren through Pointwest Bank.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Baylor Scott & White McClinton Cancer Center nurses, Megan Hromodka, Dorothy Abshire, Danielle McLennan and Caroline Willenborg for taking such good care of Jason during his illness. Also a special thanks to Dr. Azharuddin and Dr. Lott for the care and compassion you showed to Jason and the family during his final days. It meant more than words can express.
You are invited to share your thoughts and memories of Jason in our memorial guest book found at www.aderholdfh.com.
