Janet McCartney, age 79, of Gholson, passed away Friday, April 24, 2026 at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital in Waco.
A Graveside Service will be held 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2026 at Gholson Cemetery, with Rev. John Woodard officiating. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West.
Born on February 27, 1947, in Hillsboro, Janet was the cherished daughter of Boyd and Ardella (Eubank) Terry. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, beloved sister, and a proud grandmother and great-grandmother who touched the lives of all who knew her. Janet grew up in a close-knit family and attended schools in West, Whitney, and Aquilla. On August 8, 1964, she joined her life with Larry Joe McCartney in a beautiful union that lasted a lifetime. Together, they forged a life filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to one another. A valued member of the community, Janet was active in the city of Gholson, where her faith and kindness was evident. After dedicating over 30 years as a Supervisor at Fleetwood Homes in Waco, she retired in 2010, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and determination. Janet's passions included camping adventures with her family, joyous outings to the casinos, and sharing her talent for cooking that brought everyone together around the dinner table. She found joy in life's simple pleasures and continued to inspire those around her with her warmth, laughter, and compassion.
Janet is preceded in death by her parents, and a brother-in-law, Jerrell Scott.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 61 years, Larry Joe McCartney of Gholson; children, Larry McCartney and wife Mary of Flat, Jason McCartney and wife Heather of West, and Gary McCartney and wife Missy of West; grandchildren, Brandon McCartney, Bradley McCartney, Tristan McCartney, and Cameron McCartney; great-grandchildren, Addison McCartney, Lawson McCartney, Knoxx McCartney, Collins McCartney, and Gus McCartney; brother, Norman Terry and wife Linda; sisters, Doris Dillon and husband Danny, and Paulette Scott; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers are Brandon McCartney, Bradley McCartney, Tristan McCartney, Cameron McCartnery, John Whaley, and Todd Mitchell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gholson Cemetery Association.
