Henry Talamantez

February 12, 1933 — August 29, 2025

Henry Sevier Talamantez, known to many as Hank or Mr. Tal, passed away peacefully at his home on August 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 92 years old.

Born in February 12, 1933, Hank was the third of eight children born to Georgio Carlos Talamantez II and Elena Sevier Talamantez of Bracketville, TX.

A proud Eagle Scout, Hank was also a standout student-athlete at Bracketville High School. His talents led him to Baylor University, where he excelled in football, baseball, and track. He was honored to play in both the Hula Bowl and the Gator Bowl as a Baylor Bear. After graduating in 1956, Hank continued his athletic and service commitments by joining the United States Marines, where he proudly played football while serving his country.

After his military service, Hank dedicated his life to education. He earned his master's degree from George Washington University and became a beloved teacher, principal, and superintendent in several Central Texas school districts. Known as "Mr. Tal" to his students, he was respected for his firm but loving guidance and his ability to inspire greatness in those he taught.

Hank was well-known for his sense of humor, unwavering positive attitude and inspiring stories. He never met a stranger and was always willing to help those he cared about. His greatest joy, however, was his family. He was most proud of his seven children: Henry Talamantez, Michael Talamantez, Steven Riley, Marc Riley, Eric Talamantez, Kimberly Talamantez, and Joshua Talamantez. He was grateful for every moment with them and celebrated all their accomplishments with great joy.

Hank was preceded in death by his parents, Georgio and Elena Talamantez, his wife, Betty Ann Utz Talamantez, and his brothers Juan Talamantez, FilimonTalamantez, and sisters Zulima Talamantez Perez, and Weya Davalos. He is survived by his brother Richard Talamantez and his sisters Sylivia Skipper and Connie Freeman. He is also survived by all of his children, their spouses, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends.

A memorial service will be held to honor Hank's life, with details to be announced at a later date. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Shepherd's Heart Food Pantry of Waco, TX, as they live out his message of giving to those in need with no questions asked.
