Helen Jo Hurst, 82, of Axtell, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026 at her residence.
Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 27, 2026 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Eddie Scheler officiating. Graveside Service will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday at Axtell Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Born in West, Texas, on June 24, 1943, Helen dedicated much of her life to caring for others as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) at many offices including Groesbeck State Detention Center, Meridian Hospital and Clinic, and Hill Regional Hospital. She spent many years in this role, offering her compassion and expertise to those in need, and her work left an indelible mark on her community. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, dancing, playing pool, attending her grandchildren's activities, and relishing the simple pleasures of family gatherings. She also had a deep love for fishing, shopping, baking, playing games, creating countless fond memories with those she held dear. She was a member of Axtell Baptist Church. Helen will be remembered for her kind heart, warm spirit, and the unwavering love she gave to her family and friends. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Henry & Dorothy Glatter and grandson Steven Austin.
Helen was the cherished wife of David Hurst and a loving mother to her children: Charles Harrison, Jerry Harrison and wife Stephanie, Ronda Shaw and husband Daniel, David Wayne Hurst, along with her equally loved bonus children Lisa Horvath and husband Steve and John Hurst and wife Vickie. In addition to her husband David and their children, Helen is also survived by her brother, Ronnie Glatter and wife Mary; and sisters: Barbara Young, Debbie Bourgeois and husband Steve, and Dana Gerik and husband Brian. She has 14 Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers are Randal Outlaw, Noah Hurst, Matthew Scofield, Derrick Shaw, Justin Harrison, and Brian Glatter.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Axtell Baptist Church.
