Greg was born in Waco to parents Darrell Edmon Ballew Sr. and Joyce Laverne Bohannan Ballew. Greg graduated from West High School in 1986. He was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Gholson from the time of his youth. He worked many places throughout his life, including Fleetwood Homes, Knust Dairy, and most recently for a tree trimming service in Whitney. He loved to be outdoors hunting, fishing, and riding horses. He even rode bulls for a bit when he was younger. Greg was practically a horse whisperer and could train a horse to do just about anything. He also enjoyed playing guitar and singing. He tried his hand at the fiddle a time or two, but it did not come as naturally to him as the guitar.
Greg is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents along with several aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his siblings, Darrell Edmon Ballew Jr. and wife Brenda, Carla Cargill and husband Randy, Robert "Bob" Ballew and wife Debbie, Bruce Ballew, Brian Ballew, and Janet Thrower and husband Kenneth. He is also survived by his Aunt Syble Bohannan, Aunt Lillian Bohannan, Aunt Doris and Uncle Johnny Slay. Greg has many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and numerous cousins.
