Evelyn Soukup

Evelyn Soukup, age 94, of Abbott, passed away Friday morning, June 18, 2021 at West Rest Haven in West. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Monday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at Fatima Cemetery. Evelyn was born August 26, 1926 in Vaughan, the daughter of Joe and Anna (Matus) Petter. She attended schools in Abbott. On July 8, 1947 she was united in marriage to Joe Frank Soukup in Abbott. Joe preceded her in death on May 19, 2008. Evelyn was a lifelong and faithful member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She was also a member of KJZT Society #104 in Abbott. She was a Mother, homemaker and helped her husband on the family farm. Evelyn enjoyed cooking, canning, making her homemade bread, baking kolaches, making her special soup, gardening, listening to Czech music, dancing, cooking for Weddings and taking care of her two dogs "Tootsie and Boots". She won 2nd place at the 2003 Westfest Kolache Baking Contest. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially on birthdays and holidays during the year so she could cook their special meal. Evelyn is also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Evelyn Polansky; and a son-in-law, Don Philen. Survivors include her children, Jerry Soukup and wife Georgia of Red Oak, Roy Soukup and wife Fern of West, Patricia Kaluza and husband John of West, Mary Holy and husband Don of Waco, Alvin Soukup and wife Dorene of West, Martha Philen of Crawford, Josie Walter of Robinson, and Joe Soukup Jr. and wife Charlotte of West; a son-in-law, John Polansky of West; 16 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and one on the way; 8 step grandchildren; 14 step great grandchildren; 9 step great great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Jonathan Soukup, Chris Holy, Patrick Kostecka, Andy Soukup, Chris Buttry, and Clint Menefee. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Meals on Wheels or West Rest Haven Memorial Fund.
