Emilia Moreno, age 98, of Penelope, passed away Sunday afternoon, February 15, 2026 at her residence.
A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 19, 2026 at Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Penelope, with Rev. Thomas Jones as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery near Penelope.
Emilia was born August 8, 1927, in Villa de Arista, San Luis Potosí, Mexico, the daughter of Jose and Maria (Gonzalez) Mendoza. On March 19, 1945, she began a beautiful journey with her husband, Perfecto Moreno Sr., who preceded her in death on October 3, 2013. Emilia's life was one steeped in love, faith, and commitment. A devoted homemaker, she dedicated her life to nurturing her family. Emilia had a passion for crocheting, cooking delicious meals, and solving puzzles that brought her peace and reflection. A longstanding member of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Penelope, she exemplified a life of faith, grace, and community connection.
Emilia is also preceded in death by her parents; sons, Perfecto Moreno Jr. Andres Moreno, Pedro "Pete" Moreno, Placido Moreno, and Arturo Moreno; a son-in-law, Luciano Cuevas; and numerous brother and sisters.
Survivors encompass five generations of family including her children, Anna Esparza, Maria Erwin and friend Ed Kroll, Tomasa Slater and husband Mike, and John Moreno and wife Betty; a daughter-in-law, Minnie Moreno; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; brothers, Aurelio Mendoza and wife Olivia, and Joe Mendoza and wife Alicia; a sister, Octavia Pinon; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Pallbearers are Jonathan Moreno, Sean Moreno, James Slater, Michael Slater, John Paul Esparza, Erik Esparza, and Phillip Esparza.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Penelope or the Penelope Volunteer Fire Department.
