Edward A. "Ed" Traywick Jr, age 79, of Waco, passed away Monday morning, February 9, 2026 at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital in Waco.
A rosary and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, conducted by the West Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Aderhold Funeral Home.
Ed was born on March 9, 1946, in Waco, to Lillian (Hanzelka) and Edward Traywick Sr. A lifelong Waco-area resident, Ed attended St. Mary's, St. Joseph's, and Reicher High School before graduating from Connally High School in 1964. He later earned an associate degree in Business Management from Hill Junior College in Hillsboro. On July 6, 1968, Ed married the love of his life, Marie Svrcek, in Abbott, beginning a partnership that would span decades. Ed proudly served his country in the United States Army. He entered in 1966 serving in Asmara, Ethiopia until 1969, he was then assigned to Fort Bragg, NC until 1970, and then to Korea until 1971. His job required Top Secret Clerance. The Army Security Agency intercepted electronic communications from our enemies and relayed that information to the National Security Agency during the Cold War. He was honorably discharged in December of 1971 at the rank of Sergeant. Ed was a faithful member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Hewitt and found fellowship in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4819, Knights of Columbus Council #2305, and the Sierra Club. A hardworking and driven man, Ed spent many years as an owner or supervisor of local businesses, including Traywick's Drive Inn, West Wholesale Grocery, Traywick's Quick Trip, and Haltom Oil in Waco, as well as Ed's Stump Free and Lot Clearing in White Bluff, before retiring. Outside of work, Ed knew how to enjoy life. He loved going on cruises, dancing, tending his garden, and spending time outdoors, especially operating his tractor. Known for his easygoing nature and warm smile, Ed had a way of making people feel comfortable and welcome. Above all else, he cherished time with his family, creating memories filled with laughter, love, and togetherness. Ed will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Norma Adamcik and his twin Evelyn Traywick; a brother, Joe Traywick; and a grandson, Nicholas Traywick.
