Eddie Hrabal

Edward Ray "Eddie" Hrabal, age 80, of West, passed away Thursday morning, July 30, 2026, at St. Joseph's Care Center in McGregor.

A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours, with Rev. Walter Dhanwar as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in West, conducted by West Veterans Honor Guard.

Eddie was born March 4, 1946, in Tours, the son of Alfons and Julia (Hykel) Hrabal. He grew up in a loving family and attended school in Tours and West, where he cultivated a lifelong connection to his cherished community. On July 8, 1967, Eddie married the love of his life, Veronica "Ronnie" Grmela, in a beautiful ceremony in Abbott. Together, they built a warm and loving home filled with laughter, joy, and a shared commitment to family values. Eddie proudly served his country with the United States Army Reserves, a testament to his dedication and patriotism A devoted member of St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours and a distinguished 3rd Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council #2305, Eddie exemplified faith, service, and humility. He poured his heart and soul into his work as a lifelong farmer, tending the land with the same care and passion he dedicated to his family. He was a truck driver for Mrs. Baird's Bread in Waco for over 20 years before retiring. Eddie's joys extended beyond farming; he cherished the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing, barbecuing, and hunting, and often found cooking or gardening on sunny days. He delighted in making wine, kolaches, sausage, and sauerkraut, sharing his creations with family during gatherings. His true treasures were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Eddie is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eugene and Alfons "Poncho" Hrabal; and sisters, Georgia Soukup and Angie Grooms.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years, Veronica "Ronnie" Hrabal of West; his children, Stephen Hrabal and wife Janette of West, Sara Wernet and husband Aaron of West, Sharon Filer and husband Kevin of West, Samantha Kelm and husband Brandon of Lake Jackson, and Susan Vardeman and husband Matthew of Hewitt; his grandchildren, Gina Matus and husband Matthew, Jacob Hrabal and wife Tiffany, Lauren Robinson and husband Parker, Julia Rowe and husband Jeremy, Kelsie Filer, Bevin Kelm, Lincoln Kelm, Blaine Vardeman, and Brayden Vardeman; his great-grandchildren, Case, Corbyn, Callen, Eleanor, Evelyn, Beau, Brady, and Cooper; a sister, Irene Barber; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Active pallbearers are Jacob Hrabal, Mark Kocian, Eddie Kocian, Gene Hrabal, Devin Pokluda, Andy Grmela, C.J. Hajek, and Tommy Girard. Honorary pallbearers are his sons-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Veterans Honor Guard.
