David Lee Matus, age 74, of West, passed away Sunday evening, July 27, 2025 at his residence.
A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 4, 2025 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant, assisted by Deacon Ronnie Sykora. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
Born in Waco, Texas, on July 24, 1951, David was the son of Frank and Vlasta (Kral) Matus. He attended Abbott schools and furthered his education at Texas State Technical College, earning an Associate's Degree in automotive mechanics. On November 23, 1974, David married the love of his life, Catherine Mynar, in West. Together, they shared a life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. David was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption and was also a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Council #2305. For over three decades, David dedicated his career to the automotive repair industry, working at General Tire for ten years and then at Sykora Family Ford for 25 years. Known as "Mad Dog" amongst his colleagues and friends, David was a master technician who possessed a knack for fixing anything. His passion for tinkering and working on projects around the house complemented his love for the outdoors, camping, going on vacations, and occasional trips to Winstar. Family was paramount in David's life, and he was most content when surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren. His legacy of hard work and dedication to family will always be remembered.
David is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jerry Matus; and brothers-in-law, Eddie Joe Mynar, and Tom Mynar.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 50 years, Catherine Matus of West; children, Melissa Kubitza and husband Joe of West, John David Matus and wife Loren of Cedar Creek, and James Matus and fiancée Cassie Peterson and her daughter Carley of West; grandchildren, Claire Kubitza and fiancé Michael Nors, Jordyn Matus, Kenzy Roberts, Kyndal Roberts, Callen Roberts, Brexon Matus, and Jayci Matus; and siblings-in-law, Fran Matus, Lori Neckar and husband David, Frances Mynar, Pat Mynar and Susan Matus, Monica Kaska and husband Alfons, Jeanette Maler and husband Kevin, and Annette Hykel and husband Victor; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers are Joseph Matus, Chad Neckar, Brian Kaska, Tanner Hykel, Michael Nors, Rob Buchanan, and Riley Schier.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's School or a local charity of your choice.
