Curtis was born October 17, 1935, in Waco, the son of Calvin and Edna (Hudgens) Bradburry. He attended schools in Waco, Ross, and West before continuing his education at Texas State Technical Institute, where he earned an associate degree in Veterinary Technology, and McLennan Community College, where he received his Licensed Vocational Nursing certification. On July 24, 1954, he was united in marriage to Florence Kirkpatrick in Waco. Curtis proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years, from 1954 until 1974, including service during the Vietnam War as a flight engineer aboard a C-141 aircraft. Following his military retirement, Curtis continued a life of hard work and service to others. He worked alongside Dr. Goode and Dr. Edwards at East Side Veterinary Clinic, taught Farm Machinery and Animal Technology at TSTI, and later cared for Alzheimer's patients at St. Catherine's. Curtis was a hardworking man who knew his way around just about anything that needed building or fixing. Whether tending to his cattle and chickens, working in his garden, or taking on another project, he was happiest keeping his hands busy. Above all, Curtis valued his family and the time they spent together.
