"I am leaving a legacy. I just wish I had more time to leave a bigger one. But I realize- it was a good life."
Courtenay Sean Hamilton, January 9th, 1982 - September 17th, 2025
My mom told me the day before she passed that she hoped she'd made a difference in her small little life. I couldn't help but laugh. Nothing about her life, or her impact on others, had been little. Except her 5'4.25" height, and yes, the quarter inch does matter.
Her passion was to teach. From making me and my younger brother do workbooks over the summer before the school year, leading Vacation Bible School classes at the First Baptist Church of West, to ultimately finding her passion working at Hillsboro ISD for the last 11 years. Mom may have specialized in English but, she also taught us to be kind, to be understanding, that it was okay to be different and have our own opinions, that life was too short and to take advantage of the time you have.
My mom's legacy is anything but small, she was a T-Rex. I know a part of her lives on in every student that she had, every coworker that worked alongside her, in the members of the church, and in her family. We all hold our own memories of her, and she inspired us all in different ways but one thing we can all agree on, is that she was a delight.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Courtenay Hamilton Scholarship Fund. Donations can be made in person at the Celebration of Life event hosted at the Hillsboro Junior High at 3:00 PM on October 16th or mailed to HISD Business Office at 121 E. Franklin Street, Hillsboro TX 76645.
