Cheryl Hokit

Cheryl Beth Hokit, age 78, passed away at her residence on the morning of August 11, 2026.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 20, 2026 at the First Baptist Church in West, with Dr. John Crowder officiating.

Cheryl was born on March 18, 1948 in Denver, CO to the late Ralph Eugene and Sarah Katherine (Rube) Lloyd. She grew up in Denver where she graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1966. After high school she lived in Memphis, TN, Oxnard, CA,and Aurora, CO. In 1973, Cheryl moved to Montrose County, CO where she started her career as a Certified Insurance Counselor. She served as President of the Altrusa Club of Montrose, and was a member of the Montrose Christian Church. She earned her Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from Colorado Christian University and was a partner in The Insurance Center of Montrose. Cheryl retired from the insurance business 1999 and moved to a farm outside Abbott, TX. Here she fulfilled her childhood dream of being a teacher by substituting at Abbott School. She found time to volunteer at Hospice. She Joined the First Baptist Church of West in 1999 where she became a Sunday School Teacher and worked in Women's Ministry related activities.

She was a devoted wife, a kind sister, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and special Auntie. Her strength was in making friends, keeping friends, and being a true friend. She will live on in the hearts of all those friends and will be missed greatly by those who knew her.

She is survived by her husband; Joseph Hokit Sr., of Abbott TX; a sister, Mary Tennessen and her husband Don of Windsor, CO; a son, Sean Stansberry and his wife Jennifer of Montrose, CO; her grandchildren, Zachary Stansberry, Morgan Youngren and her husband Nico, and Audrey Molina and her husband Cesar; her great grandchildren Jayden Youngren, Beth Molina, and Maggie Molina; three nieces; and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.

The family would like to give special thank you to Ella Morgan and Compassus Hospice for their loving care and support given to Cheryl.
