Charlene was born August 3, 1927, in Tours, the daughter of Charles and Otillie "Tillie" (Lucien) Uptmor. She attended schools in Tours and West. On May 6, 1944, she married Alwood "Al" Scheler in Tours, beginning a marriage that would span 65 years before his passing on July 7, 2009. Charlene was a longtime member of St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours. She was also a member of Catholic Life, St. Elizabeth Altar Society, SPJST Lodge #66 at Cottonwood, and a charter member of VFW Post #4819 Ladies Auxiliary. A hardworking woman who was never one to shy away from a task, Charlene worked as a seamstress at Deluxe Manufacturing in Waco and at Owens-Illinois Glass Plant. She was also a devoted rancher's wife, working alongside Al and helping care for their cattle. While she certainly knew the value of hard work, Charlene also knew how to enjoy life. She loved sewing, cooking, dancing, hunting, trying her luck at gambling, and taking road trips whenever the opportunity arose. An avid baseball fan, she especially loved cheering on her beloved Texas Rangers. Whether enjoying a night of dancing, setting off on another road trip, or simply spending time doing the things she loved, Charlene embraced life and all its simple pleasures. Her 99 years were filled with hard work, cherished traditions, and countless memories made along the way.

Charlene is also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Weldon Uptmor; sisters, Ruby Vrba, Marcia Sulak, and Joyce Pharr; grandsons, Christopher Calabro and Jason Lednicky; a grandson-in-law, Don Gaither; a great great grandson, Ryker Conrad; and sons-in-law, Bob Calabro and Mike Grimm.

Survivors include her children, Peggy Taylor and husband Bob of Weatherford, Beverly Roberts and husband Lynn of Waco, and Gina Calabro of Coppell; grandchildren, Sherry Gaither, Bradley Wright, Bradley Roberts and wife Dayna, Chris Roberts, Cassidy Grimm Drenka and husband Mark, and Cole Calabro; granddaughter-in-law, Jacque Trybus Lednicky; great-grandchildren, Alex Conrad and husband Charles, Austin Gaither, Roman Lednicky, Carson Lednicky, Jacob Roberts, Riley Roberts, Kenna Roberts, and Callie Roberts; great great-grandsons, Trypp and Rydge Conrad; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
