Careta Gladys (Renfrow) Bryant, age 101, of Ross, passed away Thursday evening, September 25, 2025 at her residence where she was surrounded by her family.
Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Gary Kreder officiating. Burial will follow at White Rock Cemetery in Ross. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Careta was born March 15, 1924 in Lonsdale, the daughter of Roy and Etta (Donovan) Renfrow. She graduated from LaPorte High School in 1941 and went on to earn an Associate's Degree from Massey Business College in 1943. On May 9, 1943, she married KP Bryant in Houston, and they shared many years together until his passing on March 20, 2000. Careta was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church in West, as well as a Past Matron for the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter, where she received her 50-year pin. She also gave countless hours of service as a Red Cross volunteer, contributing over 10,000 hours at Barksdale Air Force Base. Throughout her career, Careta worked as a Chief Deputy Clerk at the United States District Court, spent 15 years as a school secretary for Cold Springs Independent School District, and 18 years as a postmaster relief clerk in Ross. In her leisure time, Careta found joy in sewing, dressmaking, crocheting, quilting, knitting, solving crossword puzzles, preparing meals for loved ones, and playing golf - a pastime she enjoyed for more than 40 years.
Careta is also preceded in death by her parents; daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Tim Jaska; a sister, Juanita Clark; and a grandson, Grant Jaska.
Survivors include her grandson, Bryan Jaska and wife Lisa of West; a great grandson, Donovan Moorefield and wife Marissa; great great grandsons, Lincoln and Lawson Moorfield; a sister, Lovita Smith; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Active pallbearers are Bryan Jaska, Donovan Moorefield, James Jaska, Joseph Jaska, Kelley Brisco, and Stacey Driskell. Honorary pallbearers are Richard Jaska and Jim Jaska.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to White Rock Cemetery Association or the Ross Volunteer Fire Department.
