Vivian Puckett, age 99, of West, passed away early Monday afternoon, July 9, 2007 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the West Church of Christ, with Minister Sam Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow at Bold Springs Cemetery near West. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Vivian was born on April 1, 1908 in Roby, the daughter of Roland Curtis and Minnie Caroline (Leech) Puckett. She attended schools in Birome and Penelope where she played on the basketball team. She worked as a seamstress for Wolf Manufacturing in West. She also worked as a supervisor for Waco Book Binding and took care of many of the sick and elderly in her community until her retirement in 1991. Vivian loved gardening, sewing and working the soil. She was a member of the West Church of Christ where she was very active in church activities and teaching Sunday School. She is preceded in death by five brothers, Dewey Puckett, Tom Puckett, John Puckett, Cecil Puckett and Curtis Puckett; and two sisters, Audie Bruce and Mable Puckett. Survivors include one son, Michael Stephen Edwards and friend Kim Wren of Vidalia, Georgia; two daughters, Joyce Gifford and husband Lawrence of Waco and Norma Vivian Wood and friend Jim Dishner of Ardmore, Oklahoma; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including, Jill Quick and Dr. Cherry Beckworth; and numerous other relatives and friends. Honorary pallbearers are Morgan Ballantine and Sarah Gifford. Active pallbearers will be her family and friends. Memorials may be made to West Meals on Wheels.
