Roland B. Phillips, age 69, of Gholson, formerly of the Houston area, passed away late Tuesday evening, June 30, 2009 at his residence. Memorial services will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Gholson, with Rev. Linda Wimberley officiating. Mr. Phillips was born April 12, 1940 in Boston, MA. He was married to Rita Dolores Estabrooks on February 13, 1999 in Bosqueville. He was a long haul truck driver, working for J.D. Lewis Trucking in DeLand, FL for 40 years. He also worked as a warehouse manager for TC Transportation in Fort Worth for 11 years. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and wrestling, mowing his lawn and barbecuing. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Donald Phillips, and a sister Shirley Lewis. Roland is survived by his wife Dolores Phillips of Gholson; a son, Walter Phillips and his wife Patty of West Columbia; two daughters, Fay Easter and her husband Frank of Blessing, and Michelle Beaver; four stepsons, Ronald Schermerhorn and his wife Candice of Arlington, Steven Schermerhorn and his wife Lisa of Eddy, Robert Schermerhorn and his wife Judy of Walnut Springs, and Richard Schermerhorn and his wife Sandra of Arlington; one stepdaughter, Elizabeth Franks and her fianc David Holdsworth of Clifton; two sisters, Louise Schomer of Largo, FL and Barbara Wilson of Dublin, GA; 22 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
