Mary Kay French, age 83, of West, passed away early Friday morning, July 10, 2009 at West Rest Haven in West. Memorial services are pending at this date. Mrs. French was born March 16, 1926 in Walnut Springs, the daughter of William Ira and Anna (Cureton) Mounce. She attended Walnut Springs schools before moving to California by herself at a very early age. She soon met and married Louis E. French. They settled in San Francisco where she became a waitress at the Four Seasons Hotel. She worked there for over 30 years before retiring and moving to Mesa, Arizona. Louis preceded her in death on January 5, 1999. She then returned to Texas and lived in Kerrville before coming to West to be near family. Mary Kay was a member of the San Francisco Culinary, Bartenders, and Service Employees Union. She enjoyed gambling, especially playing Blackjack, and she also was a very avid bowler. Her parents; six brothers, Bill Mounce, Butch Mounce and four infants; and a sister, Myrtle McKinney also preceded her in death. Survivors include three sisters, Dorothy Rudinger and Pauline Rogers, both of West, and Barbara Fisher Cvikel of Whitney; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Volunteer Ambulance Association.
