Josie Smith

Josephine "Josie" Smith, age 86, of Dallas, passed away early Saturday morning, October 7, 2023 at Cheyenne Medical Lodge in Mesquite.


A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2023 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Timothy Vaverek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.


Josie was born October 24, 1936 in West, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Marek) Mynar. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School and was a graduate of West High School. In 1964 she was united in marriage to Raymond  Smith in Dallas. Raymond preceded her in death on March 2, 1990.  Josie was a member of St. Phillip's Catholic Church in Dallas.  She was also a member of the KJZT St. Ludmila Society #11 in West. Josie worked for the City of Dallas Waste Water Department for over 20 years until her retirement in 1998. She enjoyed going to the casinos, playing slots, and attending garage sales.  Josie loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.


Josie is also preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, John J. Mynar Sr., Joseph  Mynar, Frank Mynar and Edward Mynar; and her sisters, Rosie Urbish, Mary Lander, Frances Chase, Annie Mynar, and Lillie Hromadka.


Survivors include her children, Joe Smith Sr. and wife Mary of Forney, Raymond "Wayne" Smith of Mesquite, and Donna Smith of Dallas; her grandchildren, Joe Smith Jr. and his wife Alejandra, Kevin Smith, Cindy and Brandon Krier, Adriana Marquez, Matthew Marquez, Nicholas Marquez, Aaliyah Smith, Yamilette Cotton, Joe Aguirre and Stephanie Cox,  Richard Aguirre Jr., Matthew Aguirre and Daisy, and Nicholas Aguirre; her great grandchildren,  Madyson, Jaxon, Briella, Elliana, Jade, Aiden, Alexander, Elaina, Hazel, Emmie, and Silas; her sisters, Agnes Atkins and Willie Mae Cervenka; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Pallbearers are Joe Smith Jr., Kevin Smith, Joe Aguirre, Richard Aguirre Jr., Matthew Aguirre, and Nicholas Aguirre.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West.
