George C. Kubacak

George C. Kubacak, age 86, of West, passed away Monday afternoon, November 1, 2010 at his residence. A Rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek and Rev. Anthony Odiong as celebrants. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, conducted by West V.F.W. Post #4819. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. George was born January 9, 1924 in West, the son of Frank A. and Mary Ann (Smajstrla) Kubacak. He attended St. Mary's Catholic School and West High School. He served his country with the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. On April 11, 1944 he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Straten in Tours. She preceded him in death on July 9, 2005. George worked for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier for 34 years before retiring in 1980. He previously worked as a carpenter. George was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, where he served as an usher. He was also a member of the 50/50 Club; V.F.W. Post #4819; American Legion Post 478; Knights of Columbus Council #2305; K.J.T. Society #31, where he served as secretary; and a West High School Band Booster. George enjoyed woodworking, listening to polka music, reading, and watching game shows. He was especially famous for his peanut brittle. His parents; two brothers, Raymond Kubacak and Alphonse Kubacak; and a sister, Irene Devers, also preceded him in death. Survivors include four sons, Virgil Kubacak and wife Mary Ann of Round Rock, James Kubacak and wife Sarah of Elm Mott, Anthony Kubacak and wife Carolyn, and Allan Kubacak and wife Denice, all of West; two daughters, Beth Sulak and husband John of West and Cindy Smith and husband Dickie of Butler, Tennessee; a brother, Charles Kubacak and wife Rose of West; two sisters, Lucille Uptmore and Barbara Recek, both of West; four sisters-in-law, Helen Kubacak, Irene Glomb, Louise Podsednik and husband Robert, and Evelyn Gerik and husband Johnny; 15 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Active pallbearers are Aaron Kubacak, John D. Sulak, Tony Kubacak, Kevin Kubacak, Collin Kubacak, Christopher Kubacak, Travis Smith, and Jason Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Tracie Simmons, Johanna Sulak, Janie Beheler, Kelli Eagen, Laura Kubacak, Jayme Kubacak, and Katie Shea. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Volunteer Ambulance Association, West Rest Haven Memorial Fund, or the charity of your choice.
