Elizabeth Schiller

January 20, 1935 — June 4, 2024

Elizabeth (Lednicky) Schiller, age 89, of West, passed away Tuesday evening, June 4, 2024 at her residence.


A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Monday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Timothy Vaverek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in West.


Elizabeth was born January 20, 1935 in West, the daughter of Agnes (Jaska) and Jerome Lednicky Sr. She attended St. Mary's School and graduated from West High School in 1952 where she was the valedictorian of her class. Elizabeth also graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1956, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She met her future husband William Daniel "Dan" Schiller at a Texas A & M University summer institute, which they each qualified for by winning a writing competition. On November 23, 1967, she was united in marriage to Dan in West. Dan preceded her in death on May 13, 2011. Elizabeth was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. She was also a member of KJZT, St. Elizabeth Society #11 in West, and a former member of St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Brenham. Elizabeth was very supportive of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Mary's School in West and all of their fundraisers. She taught English at Brenham High School for most of her career and also at Blinn College, Prairie View A & M University, and Giddings High School. Elizabeth was very supportive of her husband's 44-year career teaching English at Blinn College and involvement in church and civic activities. She had a passion for teaching other people and helping them to succeed through education. Elizabeth volunteered as an English- as-a-Second-Language (ESL) teacher, after-school Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) teacher, and hospice worker. She prioritized family gatherings, traveling regularly to West for holidays and special events.


Elizabeth is also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jerome John Lednicky, Jr., Edward Lednicky, and Joseph Lednicky; a sister-in-law, Catherine Lednicky; and other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.


Survivors include her children, Dr. Edward Schiller of Corpus Christi, Teresa Schiller of West, and Rebecca Kumar and husband David of Frisco; grandchildren, Katherine, Anna, Claire, and William Kumar; a brother, Bernard Lednicky and wife Carolyn; sisters, Patricia Patton and husband David, and Agnes Inman; many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law including, Lucille Lednicky, and Patricia Lednicky; former brother-in-law, Jack Inman; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Pallbearers are David Kumar, John Patton, Michael Lednicky, Tom Lednicky, Eric Lednicky, and Ranulfo Guerrero.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic School.


The family would like to thank Maria Hernandez and Visiting Angels for their love and care.
