Edward Uriah Nichols, age 69, of West, passed away Thursday morning, February 6, 2014 at Lake Shore Village in Waco. Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 14, 2014 at Aderhold Funeral Home in West. The family will receive visitors from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Edward was born March 16, 1944 in Waco, the son of Joe E. and Sarah (Casey) Nichols. He was a graduate of West High School and McLennan Community College. He served his country with the United States Army and Navy, stationed in Germany and all over Europe. Edward was a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Iredell, Austin and several other locations in Texas. He was also a pencil artist and writer for many years. Edward loved art, music, and collecting antiques. Edward especially enjoyed showing Russian Wolf Hounds and Great Pyrenees Dogs. He was known as a "big time hippie" and attended Woodstock. Edward is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Johnny Lee Nichols. Survivors include two daughters, Sarah Ruth Nichols and Elizabeth Anne Nichols, both of West; a son, Joshua Nichols of New York; a sister, JoAnn McAdams and husband Ronnie; grandchildren, Chloe Finn, Dax Edward, Jude Hunter, Jonathan, Stephen and a granddaughter on the way; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Rest Haven Disaster Relief Fund.
