Charles E. Black, Sr. age 86, of Whitney, formerly of Sumter, SC, passed away late Wednesday night, February 10, 2016 at Providence Hospice Place in Waco. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February18, 2016 at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Dr. John Crowder officiating. Military Graveside Rites will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery. Charles was born June 26, 1929 in Hutchinson, KS the son of Vernon L. and Jeannie (Shipley) Black. In 1960 he was united in marriage to Shirley Valet in Biloxi, MS. Charles then enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served as an electronics and radar engineer during the Vietnam War. After 20 years of service, he honorably retired at the rank of Staff Sergeant in 1980. He was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church in Whitney. Charles loved spending time with his family. He was a very active person and enjoyed music, working on small engines, dancing, and was an avid Texas Ranger fan. Charles is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Patricia Delagarza; a granddaughter, April Black; and brothers, Merle Black, Faye Black and Clinton Black. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Black of Vancouver, WA; sons, Vernon Black and wife Jennifer of Vancouver, WA and Charles Black Jr. and fianc, Tina of Laguna Park; daughters, Sharon Schroeder and husband Orlin of Grand Prairie, Charlotte Immicke of Whitney, and Michele Will and Kathy Farris and husband Richard, all of Vancouver, WA; a brother, Elvin Black; a sister, Loretta Black; 15 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Chuck Black, Phil Immicke, Tim Swilley, Toby Swilley, Alex Kenney and Ryan Kenney. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Paw Pals of Hillsboro or ASPCA.
