Butch Manske, age 79, of Elm Mott, passed away Thursday morning, August 22, 2024 at his residence.
A Graveside Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at Walling Cemetery in Malone, with Vicar Jessica Nipp officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West.
Butch was born June 17, 1945 in Massey, the son of Norman and Louise (Hugo) Manske. He attended Bynum Schools and graduated in 1963 from Penelope High School. On June 10, 1972 he was united in marriage to Shirley Jean Bailey in Hillsboro. Shirley preceded him in death on March 4, 2013. Butch proudly served his country in the Army National Guard and was stationed in Fort Polk, Louisiana and Fort Carson, Colorado. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and St. Mark Lutheran Church, both in Waco. Butch was proud to be a member of Future Farmers of America, showing his pigs at the Hill County Fair and receiving his new Ag Jacket. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Elm Mott Fire Department and enjoyed spending time at the racetrack with his daughter and grandson passing out the trophies. In his younger years, he worked at the Penelope Cotton Gin, at the Penelope Store sacking groceries, and was a production manager and inspector for Centurion Mobile Homes in Waco. Butch later worked for the Texas State Highway Department for 20 years. He enjoyed barbecuing and selling sandwiches across the street from Elm Mott grocery, and "Paw" was especially fond of his old vehicles, "Ole Brownie" the 1979 Big 10 Chevy Truck, and "Snow White", the 1963 C-10 Chevy Truck which he restored. Butch was known as the town Mayor and Sheriff because he would get up at 3:00 a.m. and ride around town to check everything out. He cherished his time with his daughter, Veronica, watching his grandson, Coty, play baseball, and joking around with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who knew him as "Paw". Butch loved having a cold beer, drinking coffee, smoking a cigar, and hanging out with his friends Ernie Slovak, James Svacina, Alton Pratka, Barry Pressley, and Leroy.
Butch is also preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Darlene Lawson and Shirley Ann Janek.
Survivors include his daughter, Veronica Kaluza and husband Shawn of Elm Mott; grandchildren, Coty Millsap, Kylie Voight and husband Brian, Karissa Mears and husband Tyler, and Landon Kaluza and Emily Easterwood; great grandchildren, Bentley Kaluza, Anthony Voight, Carter Voight, Maverick Voight, Weston Mears, and Blakely Mears; brothers-in-law, Sherman Lawson and Roy Janek; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Elm Mott Volunteer Fire Department.
