Bernice Rejcek Gerik

Bernice M. (Rejcek) Gerik, age 74, of San Antonio, formerly of Penelope, passed away early Friday afternoon, February 7, 2014 at her residence. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at Aderhold Funeral Chapel in West, with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Bernice was born March 31, 1939 in West, the daughter of Valentine and Christine (Makovy) Rejcek. She attended schools in Penelope and was a graduate of Penelope High School. On November 21, 1959 she was united in marriage to Edward J. Gerik in Penelope. Bernice was a cafeteria manager for the Northside I.S.D. in San Antonio with Holmes High School and Mary Hall Elementary School for over 40 years, caring for the children before retiring in May2001. She was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in San Antonio. Bernice loved baking and being in the kitchen making Czech Kolaches by the pan full's, you were never hungry when she was in the kitchen. She especially loved spending time with her three granddaughters and family. She will be truly missed. Bernice is preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Pamela Gerik; brothers, George Rejcek, Albert Rejcek and Edmund Rejcek; and sisters, Lucille Kubala and Geraldine Neslony. Survivors include her beloved husband of 55 years, Edward J. Gerik of San Antonio; four sons, Anthony Gerik and wife Marsha of Charlotte, NC, Timothy Gerik and wife Donna of Brenham, Thomas Gerik of San Antonio and Jeff Gerik and wife Pam of Austin; brother, Lawrence Rejcek and wife Joan; sisters, Josephine Cervenka and husband Robert and Wilma Kallus and husband Patrick; brothers-in-law, Louis Kubala and James Neslony; ten grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are her Sons Anthony, Timothy, Thomas and Jeffery Gerik. Please in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Families of the explosion in West or your favorite Charity in Mrs. Bernice (Rejcek) Gerik name.
