August A. Sulak, age 96, of West, formerly of Whitney, passed away early Tuesday morning, July 9, 2013 at Town Hall Estates in Whitney. Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Cemetery with Rev. Ed Karasek officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the West Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Aderhold Funeral Home. Mr. Sulak was born July 27, 1916 in West, the son of Anton and Anna (Merka) Sulak. He attended the old Tokio School. August served his country with the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. On April 23, 1941 he was united in marriage to Irene Peters in San Antonio. She preceded him in death on November 2, 1999. August worked as an aircraft mechanic for the United States Air Force for 22 years. He also was an independent truck driver. August enjoyed hunting, fishing, and sharing stories of his military life. August is also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Daniel Sulak and Albert Sulak; and sisters, Lois Patterson, Josephine Kolar, Celia Janke, Martha Kennedy, Tina Kopecky, Rosa Rogers and Frances Sparks. Survivors include a son, Malcolm Sulak and wife Brenda of Joshua; grandsons, Phillip Sulak, Darrell Sulak, David Sulak, and Shawn Sulak; great grandchildren, Alexis, Ian, Markie, Tuesday, Crystal, Madison, Coleman and Michael; a great great granddaughter, McKenna; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
